PAAT Ethics Compliance Institute will be held on Friday, October 15 at Barton Creek Resort. This year's Institute theme is Social Media and Technology: Changing the Face of Lobby Communications. Peter Vogel is the Keynote Speaker. Vogel is an expert in social media and the law and will sufficiently excite, inform and frighten us about the use of technology for communicating in our business. More than 50 organizations in support of frequent visitor access options

PAAT was one of a wide variety of constituencies that signed a letter aimed at easing the Capitol entry process for those people who frequent it often (in light of increased security measures). More than 50 organizations signed the letter, and a hard copy was delivered to the Preservation Board on Friday, June 16.

Key issues discussed at June TEC meeting:

  • Sworn Complaints: As of May 31st, 279 sworn complaints had been filed. As of the June 11th meeting that number had increased to 297. Last year, there were a total of 274 sworn complaints filed. There are currently 186 sworn complaints pending.
  • EAO No. 484: Commission has been asked a follow-up question to its answer to EAO No. 484. A subcommittee was appointed to discuss this opinion request and come back to the full Commission.
  • TEC Legislative Recommendations: A subcommittee was appointed to consider recommendations to the 82nd Legislature as required by section 571.073 of the Government Code.
  • New Rules: Three rules were proposed dealing with technical, clerical or de minimis violations in the sworn complaint process and direct campaign expenditures as a result of the Citizens United ruling.
